Bay Area Pet Spa and Resort is located adjacent to Bay Area Animal Hospital. We have 30 dog kennels of various sizes, along with multiple cat condos for your boarding needs. Our grooming suite can accommodate the needs of various sized dogs and cats, along with a variety of coat types. We also offer daily daycare Monday through Friday for dogs who pass an evaluation. Come see us for all your pet boarding, grooming and daycare needs!

  • Erik Haukaas DVM

    Veterinarian, Hospital Owner

    Dr. Haukaas grew up in Ashland WI.  He is a graduate of Ashland High School, and Northland College.  He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin-School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990.  Erik and his wife Amy (who is the office manager) have two children, Alyssa and Jake.  They share their home with their dogs, "Slate" and "Cider".

    Dr. Haukaas joined the Bay Area Animal Hospital in 1993, and became the owner in 1998.  A new hospital building was completed in 2008 to accommodate the business growth and include pet grooming, boarding and daycare.

    Erik enjoys hunting and fishing in the Chequamagon Bay area when not working.  He is a member of the AVMA, WVMA, and the Chequamagon Humane Association.

  • Mia Nelson

    Emilia grew up on Madeline Island. She graduated from University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a bachelors degree in Animal Science. She has completed multiple animal care internships ranging from the Duluth Superior Zoo to Wild Care Rehab in Oklahoma. After traveling so much she has settled long enough to adopt her two cats, Shelby and Willow. 
  • McKayla Waggoner

    McKayla is a recent graduate of Northland College waiting to pursue a career in teaching. She has a cat, Stella, who she adores. She moved to Ashland in 2015 to attend college and has loved it ever since. One day she hopes to travel the world to learn about different cultures and try all the unique food, or maybe even teach aboard. You can catch her outside riding her bike, traveling with her friends or curled up on the couch watching Netflix. 
  • Mariah Partanen

    Mariah joined the BAAH team in January 2020. She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Zoology. She’s passionate about all animals and has a high interest in exotics. When Mariah is not at work, she’s spending time with her family and their two dogs, Copper and June. Mariah and her husband also have chickens, a wood turtle, and a leopard gecko.  Mariah loves to explore the UP, go snowboarding, and relaxing on the beaches of Florida.
  • Jasmine Poppovich

    Jasmine joined the BAAH team in July 2020. In addition to being a part of the BAAH family, she spends time working with 14 Alaskan Huskies, training them for tours and races around the Midwest. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors, backpacking, canoeing, and dog sledding. She currently has no pets of her own, but would love to own her own kennel of working dogs someday.
